Industrialized Farming and the swine flu April 28, 2009

With stories and reports about the swine flu flooding our airwaves, I am immediately reminded of an article I read in Rolling Stone magazine a few years back that made me sick to my stomach.  A quick key word search on Google: “rolling stone article on pig farming” and bam! It’s the first link that pops up.  (I just love Google).

The article delves deep into the pig farming practice and it’s not so pretty.  I hope you’ll take the time to read this article and then help effect change by spending your money with companies who are ethical in their farming practices.  I feel strongly that industrialized farming is the prime source of our ailments and the outbreaks we are experiencing in our modern times.

The link is super long so make sure you get it all in the browser. Or you can just type in the key words I mentioned above.

EcoArt, great book for kids April 16, 2009

I love the library.  I could go everyday if my kids would be into it. My oldest isn’t much of a library nut, like me. He loves books and likes to be read to, but he’d rather spend his time elsewhere.   Sometimes I actually go alone so I can really look books over.  On my most recent trip, I stumbled upon a book called EcoArt:! Earth-Friendly Art and Craft Experiences for 3-to 9-year-olds by Laurie Carlson. It’s great!  Brought onto the scene way back in 1993 it’s full of creative ways to use things that might normally go into the trash.  Check it out.  You and your kids won’t be disappointed. You can find it on Amazon.com too.
